History of Kerala is coupled with the history of Nairs. The history goes back to the times of Mohanjodaro and Harappa, more than 5,000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. During the Chera period, the Nairs held high positions and wielded considerable influence in society. There are historical evidence to prove that the Nairs were well educated, highly cultured and much advanced in martial and other arts. In fact, they were landlords, chieftains or army commanders and were inferior to none in brain. Nairs were patriotic, loyal and honest. Renowned for their integrity and velour, they were ready to sacrifice their lives for their kings and their kingdoms. Travencore and Cochin had Nair brigades till the independence of India. The Nair infantry even fought with the Dutch and defeated them at Kulachal. The new rulers disbanded or dismissed the committees and assemblies of Nairs and social relationships broke down, and unemployment spread everywhere among the Nair youths. The situation changed with the establishment of the Nair Service Society (NSS) in Kerala under the leadership of Shri.Mannathu Padmanabhan.. Under his great leadership our community has created an educational revolution in Kerala, by holding 20 colleges, 102 schools, having 93000 students studying in these institutions. We have more than 5000 Karayogams, 2000 Vanitha Samajams and 270 Balasamajams in Kerala.

Today, following the footsteps of our great Leader, Samudayacharyan, Shri Mannathu Padmanabhan, Baroda Nair Welfare Association is on a forward march and it is the duty of all the members of the community to keep up the glorious heritage alive and scintillating.
